I live on a farm north of Nhill where I also have a gallery, ‘Gallery D’Art’ and I have been painting for around 25 years. I am essentially (but not exclusively) a landscape artist. Although I aspire to paint in an impressionist or semi abstract style, in reality my works are more realistic than I wish to admit. I mainly worked in oils untill mediums and spirits started to affect me. I now work mainly with acrylics but also enjoy working in other mediums including pen & ink and pastels. I am inspired by most of the Impressionists & Post Impressionistsartists including the Australian group. The energy of Van Gogh’s work, amazes me. I also love the Fauves, and the likes of Kandinski of the Expressionist movement. There are many Australian Artists I admire such as Margaret Preston and Fred Williams. I initially had some (limited as it was) formal training in the late 1950’s, plus some more recent informal workshop experiences which were of great benefit and which inspired me to keep producing art works and enjoying the process. One of the best parts of my ‘Art Journey’ is painting with a group of like minded people each fortnight. Together we learn from, and inspire each other, as well as enjoying the social aspect of working together. Being an active part of ‘Gallery Central’ in Nhill in past years, has been another highlight of my so called ‘Art Journey’. |
